Photo101: Architecture and Monochrome are taking you to Paris

Another interesting challenge today. I never take pict in B&W, I love the colors far too much. But I did do the exercise, turned my colors into B&W.

My initial feeling is still the same: BW is cold to me. What do you think?

I am like you – never doing B&W. Firstly let me say I love the photos but I do prefer the colour versions (probably showing my bias for colour)

Love the vibrancy of your site. I also love how you have displayed your photos colour and black and white next to each other and the content of each picture is intriguing.

Thanks a lot 🙂 I put them this way so I could appreciate all the differences, especially in the ambience. Colors are always much more smilier to me. I understand people loving BW, but it is a bit cold to me. What do you think? have a lovely week!

  3. Me too, I prefer colors, though I run to B&W when the colors of my photos don’t look good. 😀 There’s something about your second photo though that looks more appealing to me in B&W.

For buildings and other “hard” structures, sometimes black and white gives it that simple and clean touch. I liked the first monochrome photo of the columns. But most of the time, I prefer color because it just makes me happy. 🙂

Estelea, I agree with you – for your photos, B&W does not go well. The reason? Well, your pictures transmit so much life, energy, and love for the beautiful things around you. By doing so, frankly you need colors! Keep shooting in colors – that’s my humble advice. PS: Paris is sooooooo beautiful! 🙂

I actually love black and white photography. A well composed black and white photo has so much mystery to it, and I love that. I do really like these black and white photos of yours, especially the middle one. That one is my favorite. That said, I do agree with Fabio–your photography is generally so vibrant that shooting in color really does suit you so well.

Thanks a lot for your precious comments. I do agree with you about B&W, it has something of course. But to me it’s like admiring a beautiful dress made for a super tall blond girl. Great stuff, but would not suit me.
Heartfelt thanks for your last line, I really appreciate 🙂

There is indeed something mysterious and timeless with B&W. I guess I am so in the present and so “what you see is what you guess” that colors suits me better 😉

I should give a second thought to the mysterious quality of the B&W though…Thanks for the inspiration 🙂

I love B&W photography a lot but also color. It all depends of the subject. Portraits in BW are a must for me. Street photography as well.
But you know what? This is nothing more than personal taste. The way we express ourselves, being with words or images, speaks about our personalities and all that comes with it. I can totally agree with many commenters here that you are a warm and vibrant soul. It is your more natural and essential way of communicating with the world. But that does to mean that your photos are not stunning in B&W. You made excellent choices here and they turned very well in monochrome. I especially love the middle one! Chapeau!

The colour ones really win the prize for me. 🙂

There is something so simple and uncluttered about BW photographs. Obviously color is more “accurate” to what the eye sees, but BW allows for a different view. Possibly one with fewer distractions. Like prose with fewer descriptives, perhaps. I love it!
